HOSPITALITY MINISTRY

Lydia Sanabria Alexander

Lydia Sanabria Alexander

Lydia was not raised knowing the Lord Jesus, however, He knew her. Lydia met Jesus in December of 1999 and was baptized in His name in February 2000. She served the Lord with all her heart until 2003. Then life and the issues of life deceived Lydia and she walked away from her relationship with the Lord. One spring day in 2007, Lydia was reflecting on her life’s journey and realized the difference when she was walking with the Lord. She determined to reconcile with her Lord. That summer Lydia went on an intense fast and prayer that God would direct her to HIS church for her family. In August while attending Capital Community College she met Dr. Indira Petoskey whose life was a powerful witness of God. After learning Dr. Petoskey was the Executive Pastor of The Pentecostals, she knew God was answering her prayer. In September Lydia visited the church and immediately knew she was home. Lydia and her entire immediate family have rekindled their walk with God. God has blessed her with a wonderful husband and three children. She has served on the kitchen, ushering and hospitality teams, and is now the Director of Hospitality.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Carl Johnson

Carl Johnson - East Hartford

Carl was born in Granby, CT, in 1960. Six years later his family moved to East Hartford where he lived throughout his school years. He started playing the drums in 5th grade and added the Saxophone, Flute and Clarinet in High School. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Music Education degree from the University of Connecticut in 1982. After college, he moved to Miami, Florida to pursue a career in golf, not realizing that God was pursuing him.

When the golf thing didn't swing, Carl returned to East Hartford in 1984 to find some family members involved in the beginnings of a Pentecostal church led by Rev. Jon K. Petoskey. Carl started attending services and was baptized in the saving name of Jesus Christ that fall and received the gift of the Holy Ghost the following year. Carl became involved in the music ministry of The Pentecostals, playing rhythm guitar and providing backup vocals. He left The Pentecostals in 1989, attended two other UPCI churches over the next 20 years, and returned home to The Pentecostals in June of 2009.

Carl is blessed with a wonderful and supportive wife, Donna, whom he married in 1989, and with two awesome children, Andrea, born in 1997 and AJ, born in 1999.
Music has an extremely powerful influence on individuals and society alike. Carl's passion for music in the church is that it first bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ and second that it create such an atmosphere of praise and worship that all present can easily enter into the Lord's presence and personally encounter Him.

LOS PENTECOSTALES

Ben & Evelyn Castro

Ben & Evelyn Castro - Hartford

Ben Castro came to the United States at the age of twelve from Humana, Puerto Rico. He was raised and grew up in a traditional Catholic home. He is a graduate of Hartford Public High School and pursued further vocational training at a trade school. As he grew older with a wondering heart he began to read and study the Bible more and more. His searching led him to a nondenominational church where he attended for nine years and was a Bible Institute student. During his years attending there he served in a variety of roles, including musician, board member, usher, and youth helper. Ben married his lovely wife, Evelyn, in 1974 and they were blessed with two wonderful sons, Benjamin and David. God has also blessed them with a beautiful granddaughter, Mellenia.

In 1999, a friend invited Ben and Evelyn to a service at The Pentecostals. The church family here at The Pentecostals quickly became their spiritual family. He was baptized by immersion in the name of Jesus and soon after received the gift of the Holy Ghost. That experience transformed his life! As he has grown in Christ he has served The Pentecostals in a variety of capacities. Ben & Evelyn together coordinated the Singles Ministry for several years, he has also served as an Usher, the Head Usher, and musician. Currently, he is on our pastoral staff and a musician. He responded to God's call into the ministry in 2004 under our Senior Pastor's leadership. He has clearly felt for several years a calling to minister to the Hispanic community of greater Hartford. In honoring that call in July 2008, Rev. Castro launched Los Pentecostales with a monthly service and in October 2010 began weekly Celebration Services which are held at 12:30 every Sunday.
