OUR HISTORY

The Pentecostals began in 1984 in the living room of the founding Pastor’s home, Reverend and Mrs. Jon K. Petoskey, located in Manchester, Connecticut. After the initial service, one family committed to joining this infant church, which prompted them to rent a meeting room at the East Hartford YMCA. As the church began to grow, our body of believers moved to larger facilities, which included larger rooms at the YMCA, the Temple Beth Tefilah on Oak Street in East Hartford, as well as two locations on Burnside Avenue. The first of these was a storefront church that housed The Pentecostals for several years, until every interior wall that could be removed for expansion was! The Lord enlarged our tabernacle of worship, moving us into the upper room at 135 Burnside Avenue. Again He showed His desire for His body to grow as we expanded until further expansion within that building was not possible.
In April 2000, we were blessed with a new leased location in South Windsor that would accommodate our growth for seven blessed years. In 2002, Reverend Jon W. Petoskey was installed as Senior Pastor following seven years of co-pastoring with his father, our founding pastor, Rev. Jon K. Petoskey. In January of 2007, growth mandated a move, which saw us relocate to Pleasant Valley Elementary School planning to be there for a transition long enough to acquire land and build. However God provided the opportunity for a wonderful sharing covenant between The Pentecostals and Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. This beautiful campus has proven a very capable home for both congregations since May 20, 2007. God has blessed The Pentecostals with a growing membership that is a loving spiritual family for the many members who consider it their Spiritual Center for Life!
